SMAELTA was formed in 2015 in Älmhult.

The company was initiated by designer Lotta Pettersson, fourth generation glass worker.
Schooled at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen she worked in Denmark for several years
before she returned to her home town, Älmhult. 



The proximity to nature, the forest and the lake, she was inspired to create new shapes and expressions in the material. 


Out of that landscape grew an assortment of useable vases. Modern design meets traditional craft.

A few years later a collection of jewellery was designed.
The ambition was to use the glass, with its fantastic characteristics, as the prime material.
The design would result in the interplay with prescious metals to enhance the expression of the glass.

The final product was a collection of jewellery where the glass is the focal point.
Elegant, clean and simplistic design visualizing the colours of nature.
