MYR 210 - glass vase

MYR 210

The inspiration for the vase came from a story in the designer's childhood.
The ancestors worked at the active quarries in Småland.

The working days were long and hard and ended late in the evening.
On their way home from the mountain, they often crossed the marsh and out in the middle
of the landscape they could sometimes see mysterious lights appear.

This frightened them. The faint flames of light were interpreted as something supernatural.

Scientifically, this remarkable phenomenon is explained as bubbles of swamp gas that can form
on marshland and then spontaneously ignite and burn with a weak flame. It's called a blizzard.

The story surrounding the phenomenon of light was the starting point for the vase's appearance.
The surface of the glass itself was therefore most important.

The vase was given a straight and simple shape to highlight the optical effect of all the lines.
This layer of dense horizontal lines causes the light to be refracted in a vibrating way.

The feeling of the light phenomenon and the magical sensation out on the moor was recreated in the vase.
